Karen explains how she uses underwater Common Murre footage to animate a sequence in The Legend of the Great Auk
Alcids are excellent at both underwater swimming and flying in the air (though you can see in Birdathlon how they struggle with quick back and forth turns in the air!). In this video, Karen explains how she uses the rotoscoping technique, using underwater reference footage, to animate a short segment in The Legend of the Great Auk, in which our ghostly Great Auk explains threats alcids like Maxwell may encounter. The more stark style of this short segment sets it apart from the more painterly style of the main animation.
